The National Republican Congressional Committee has reportedly dropped their support for former South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford.
In a blow to Mark Sanford’s attempt at political revival, the National Republican Congressional Committee has decided not to spend any more money in the former governor’s bid for a congressional seat in South Carolina. [...]
Sanford’s ex-wife, Jenny Sanford, accused him Tuesday of trespassing at her home resulting in a mandated appearance in court two days after the special election this summer. Sanford claimed Wednesday that he was in the home to watch the Super Bowl with his son.
“I did indeed watch the second half of the Super Bowl at the beach house with our 14-year-old son because as a father I didn’t think he should watch it alone,” Sanford said in a statement.
Sometimes the attack ads write themselves. In this case, Sanford is due in court immediately after the day he is asking voters to support him.
In his official statement Sanford implied that this instance of trepassing on his ex-wife’s property was an isolated incident, but according to The Washington Post, Jenny Sanford described a “pattern of entering” in her complaint.
Mark Sanford and Republican primary voters may have just delivered another seat to Democrats.
