So says Chris Bowers at OpenLeft. He also claims that the president-elect is only faking his liberalism ("progressivism" in Chris' terms). All due respect to Chris, but I don't get how that's possible.
An Yglesias commenter named TerryS gives us a rough sense of some of the president-elect's more glaringly 'center-right' positions:
* Raising the highest margin tax rate
* Raising the capital gains tax rate
* Massive expansion of federally funded health coverage
* Withdraw of military from Iraq
* Allow gays in the military
* Ending the use of “enhanced interrogation”
* Closing Gitmo
* Regulating/taxing carbon emissions/fuels
* Tying free trade agreements to labor and environmental standards
* Greater regulation of health insurance eligibility/coverage/pricing
* Easing restrictions on union organizing.
* Expanded federal investment in alternative energy
* Appoint justices to the supreme court who believe in a constitutional right to privacy that extends to abortion.
And take another hard look at this BooMan post.
Am I missing something? Are these positions seriously 'center-right'?
