That new McCain commercial in which he's walking along a border fence being assured by a sheriff that he's "one of us" is a little creepy as it stands. "One of us" is just a terrible phrase to use in this climate of racial tension, and McCain's "complete the danged fence" might as well be "I'm completely a danged sellout." And the first words out of his mouth include the debunked claim that there's rampant crime -- "home invasions, murder."
In case you've missed it:
But the funniest aspect of the commercial is Sheriff Paul Babeu. It turns out his county of jurisdiction isn't even close to the border. It's way up near Phoenix -- two counties north of where the commercial was shot.
Good one.
Ultimately, I hope McCain wins but only because Hayworth is so awful. Between the 2008 campaign and this year's nonsense, McCain has become such a pathetic shell of a man, he deserves to lose.
