Critics are describing this as a "poll tax" for students and I believe they're right.
Ohio Republicans added an amendment to a transportation bill that would effectively charge students a large fee if they want to vote.
The provision would require people who come into Ohio and register to vote to re-register their vehicles with Ohio after 30 days. If they fail to register the car with Ohio, then their driving privileges under their out-of-state license for any vehicle would be suspended and they would have to obtain an Ohio license to drive.
If students want to vote, they would have to pay nearly $100 to register their vehicles or lose their driving privileges.
It doesn't take a genius to figure that the overwhelming majority of college students would forgo voting to keep their driving privileges. And that's the idea, isn't it?
Republicans hate it when young people and minorities vote.
