What an outstanding hour of television. The following section entirely nailed why healthcare reform -- real healthcare reform -- is mandatory:
The resources exist for your father and mine to get the same treatment to have the same chance and to both not have to lie there worried about whether or not they can afford to live!
Afford to live? Are we at that point? Are we so heartless that we let the rich live and the poor die and everybody in between become wracked with fear — fear not of disease but of Deductibles? Right now, right now, somebody's father is dying because they don't have that dollar to spend.
This is the crime of it all. The drive for corporate profit has overtaken the very basic idea of America: life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
And by the way, as I type this, I'm listening to Joe Scarborough diminishing the need for reform -- suggesting that the president is operating in a bubble and pushing for reform when nobody really wants or needs it. Talk about a living in a bubble. The Republicans will do anything to protect a zygote, but providing affordable maternity care for the mother of that zygote, or healthcare for the resulting newborn baby, is tyranny!
But anyway, if you didn't have a chance to watch Countdown last night, watch the whole thing here. You'll be glad you did. It will be remembered as a touchstone in this entire ordeal. I just hope Congress was watching, too.
