By Friday evening only a handful of charities had canceled their annual fundraisers at Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, but that number has now swelled to at least fourteen.
The only two organizations that haven't canceled their Mar-a-Lago fundraisers (yet) probably won't surprise you.
In all, 14 have canceled and only two events remain: The Palm Beach Police Foundation's annual Policeman Ball and the Palm Beach County Republican Party's annual Lincoln Day Dinner, according to reports.
The departures could cost the Trump Organization $1.1 million in total, the Washington Post estimated, with rental fees ranging from $24,000 to $276,000. Recent financial reports showed that the property generated around $37 million in revenue from January 2016 to April 2017. Profits from Mar-a-Lago are placed in a trust for the duration of Trump's presidency while Eric Trump and Donald Trump, Jr. manage the estate.
A million dollars may not mean a whole lot to Trump, but the loss of prestige and the insult of these organizations canceling on him will almost certainly strike a nerve.
As of now, I still can't think of any good reasons why these charities chose the Mar-a-Lago in the first place or why they hadn't already canceled their fundraisers.
In context with everything else we've seen lately, it appears virtually nothing Trump said during the 2016 campaign was taken seriously even though he was absolutely serious. Trump hasn't changed. He played the role of Nazi-whisperer during the campaign as well. The only thing that has changed is public recognition that this is the real Trump. He is possibly the most miserable piece of shit in the world.
