I was so overwhelmed with schadenfreude last week, I missed this report from the Washington Post detailing Speaker Paul Ryan's last-minute pleas to members of his caucus.
According to the Post, Ryan literally begged for Trumpcare.
Ryan got down on a knee to plead with Rep. Don Young, an 83-year-old from Alaska who is the longest-serving Republican in Congress and remains undecided.
When the speaker finished with Young, he spent about 10 minutes in an animated discussion with Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.), one of the bill’s most outspoken critics. At one point, the speaker took his own arms and held them up, his hands at face level, then slowly lowered them to his waist — presumably trying to demonstrate his belief that the bill will lower costs.
I'd call this pathetic regardless of the circumstances, but consider this: Ryan was literally begging for votes to kick over 24 million people off their healthcare.
Ryan was begging for support for his bill that repeals essential health benefits and defunds Planned Parenthood, among many other terrible things.
Nancy Pelosi would never lower herself to this position. Speaking of which...
