There's no evidence that Hillary Clinton's email server was ever breached or that she in any way compromised national security, but Speaker of the House Paul Ryan apparently believes she should be denied access to classified intelligence briefings for the remainder of the campaign. For reasons.
Ryan told reporters Wednesday that he wants Director of National Intelligence James Clapper to bar Clinton from receiving the customary briefings on national security issues provided to presidential candidates. [...]
He added that Congress would explore whether it could block classified briefings if the administration won’t, and wouldn’t rule out calling for a special prosecutor when asked.
There's a big problem here and it's not just the complete lack of evidence against Hillary Clinton.
The elephant in the room is Republican presidential nominee Donald freakin' Trump.
Paul Ryan evidently believes the former Secretary of State(!) should be denied access to daily intelligence briefings but infamous, world-renowned buffoon Donald Trump, a man with a well-known penchant for praising dictators, should not be denied access.
Donald Trump has repeatedly called for abandoning NATO, floated the idea of using nuclear weapons, and called for giving more space to Putin's Russia. Trump is known for opening his big mouth and blurting things out that he shouldn't. Trump's campaign manager Paul Manafort has worked for multiple dictators including the likes of Ferdinand Marcos and Russian stooge Viktor Yanukovych.
If Paul Ryan truly doesn't view the latter as a greater threat to national secrecy than some defunct email server, we can only conclude that he is a lizard.
You might have guessed, but Paul Ryan does not have the authority to block access to intelligence briefings. That is at the discretion of the executive branch and, more specifically, the director of national intelligence.
