As the kids say, shit just got real.
We already knew federal investigators were looking into Trump's staff's communications with the Russians, but now we have a little more detail about a recent case.
Trump's national security adviser and former intelligence director Michael Flynn was reportedly captured on an intercept speaking to a Russian diplomat back in December.
The calls were captured by routine US eavesdropping targeting the Russian diplomats, according to the intelligence and law enforcement officials. But the officials said some of the content of the conversation raised enough potential concerns that investigators are still looking into the discussions, amid a broader concern about Russian intelligence-gathering activities in the United States.
The calls were heard in the course of monitoring of communications of Russian diplomats, the officials said.
President Obama was still the sitting president in December and it's actually against the law for a private citizen (Flynn) to interfere with foreign policy. I'm skeptical that he will be charged, but if he is this will be the basis of it. Flynn being forced to resign at some point seems like a more plausible scenario to me.
Selecting Flynn to serve as national security adviser was a giant 'fuck you' to the entire intelligence community and they aren't going to let this go.
This should not be confused with a previous investigation federal authorities launched in April of last year examining a money trail that may lead from the Kremlin to the Trump campaign.
