I’ve got to call it like I see it: The administration’s sudden interest in offshore drilling is little more than political posturing designed to gain support for job-killing energy legislation soon to come down the pike. I’m confident that GOP senators will not take the bait.
In other words, the president wants to drill. And the Republican reaction is: Don't believe him. So there is literally no solution they will accept, and therefore their demand for drilling is merely shouting and not an actual attempt to drill -- because if the president accepts it, he's not really accepting it. The Republican position is to ask for drilling, then to turn it down anyway. Smart.
