All around the tubes today, I'm seeing the headline: "R.I.P. Paul Harvey."
Indulge me here. I don't ask much of the world, but can we retire the acronym "R.I.P." from the English language? It's almost like saying, "I'm honoring this dead person, yet I don't care enough to actually spell out 'rest in peace.'"
It just seems like something you'd see on a gravestone in a cartoon about the wild west. Do they even engrave "R.I.P." on real gravestones anymore?
UPDATE: I apparently made a common error. R.I.P. is short for the latin phrase "requiescat in pace."
