Healthcare

Roundtable of Morons

I'm watching This Week and the debate about healthcare is stacked with two Republicans, Ben Nelson (filibustering reform), and Debbie Wasserman-Schultz. Poor Debbie. Surrounded by flaming idiots.

To wit, Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) just said:

"There is no test case out there that they can point to, no pilot project they can point to where a government-controlled health care system has brought down the cost, increased the access, taken care of those with pre-existing and chronic conditions, allowed portability, dealt with malpractice reform."

No test case?! Every industrialized nation in the world provides healthcare for its citizens! And they do it more cheaply and effectively than we do. We're being left behind by the rest of the world. How dare these morons defend a system -- the only system in the industrialized world -- that allows people to go bankrupt because they get sick -- that allows people to die because of the corporate profit motive. It's disgraceful. We're disgraceful.

Adding... Say nothing of the fact that when, for example, we were debating whether to invade Iraq, there were never three opponents and one supporter on a Sunday show panel. Ever.
