Economy

Rubber Gate

Drudge is awful:

You know what, Matt? Birth control would solve most of the world's problems -- economic or otherwise. How many children in America are born into poverty every day? 2,583. That's one every 33 seconds.

Net population growth worldwide is expected to be 65 million people per year by 2050. By mid-century, there will be 11 billion people on Earth. The very basic question that needs to be asked over and over is this: can we sustain the population at its current level of 6.7 billion people? No way. Around 1 billion people currently live in extreme poverty. 8 million people per year die due to the effects of poverty.

It might sound facile, but condoms can save humanity.

We can either control population growth by letting more and more people die horrible deaths, or we can reduce the birth rate to sustainable levels using contraceptives. But of course that'll never happen until the Puritanical Republican anti-condom mindset is marginalized, if not entirely crushed.

Again, the bottom line is this: Republican free-market economics failed. Time for them to sit down and shut up.
