Mitt Romney squeaked out a narrow victory yesterday in Iowa -- by an unprecedented eight votes. 30,015 to Santorum's 30,007. But Rick Santorum was the real winner considering this:
Santorum spent about $1.65 per vote; Romney spent around $113 per vote.
But Santorum doesn't have the money or the record to play outside of that state. Mitt Romney will win the nomination because he's not all of the other crackpots.
For a short while, however, we get to recall all of those awful Santorum things from 2006 and earlier. He ran the K Street Project, he wants to ban contraception, he kept his miscarried baby in a jar, he once thought he found WMD in Iraq and he once compared same-sex marriage to man-on-dog marriage.
And there's more where those came from.
I also predict that there won't be any more sudden surges from other candidates. This is going to be about Santorum, Romney and, lobbing crazy bombs, Ron Paul.
