Just like the rest of us, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson learned that he had been fired this morning by reading Twitter.
The Washington Post first reported this morning that Tillerson was informed on Friday that he would be replaced, but the truth appears to be far dumber than anything you could imagine.
CNN contradicted the Washington Post this morning by reporting that Tillerson didn't know he would be fired until seeing it on Twitter, but it looks like the reports from the Washington Post and CNN are both partially accurate.
Tillerson did not speak to Trump and is unaware of the reason behind his firing, Undersecretary for Public Diplomacy Steve Goldstein said. [...]
Goldstein said Tillerson was notified of the official termination in Trump's tweet Tuesday morning.
The Associated Press reports that Chief of Staff John Kelly did contact Tillerson on Friday, but all he told him was to watch Twitter.
The Associated Press reported that during that call from Kelly, Tillerson only was told that Trump might tweet something that would concern him, but was not told what the tweet would say or when it might be posted.
In a prepared statement issued Tuesday, the State Department's press office suggested that Tillerson was blindsided by the announcement of his being axed.
We can only speculate, but I get the impression that neither Kelly or Tillerson took the possibility seriously because they didn't really know what Trump would do. It's possible Trump himself didn't know what he would do until this morning. Maybe he woke up with a bug up his ass. Who knows?
Undersecretary for Public Diplomacy Steve Goldstein was also fired this morning because spoke to CNN for their report.
Everyone who works with Trump is eventually humiliated.
