Senate Republicans have fast-tracked the House GOP bill to defund Planned Parenthood for one year which passed last week on a party-line vote.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Tuesday fast-tracked a bill that would block federal funding for Planned Parenthood.
The Republican leader finished the fast-track process, which was started on Monday night, that will allow the House-passed bill to skip the committee process and go directly to the Senate floor where it could be brought up for a vote.
By its nature, fast-tracking a bill means you have necessarily skipped an investigation and any potential committee hearings that may or may not persuade a congressman or woman to vote or not vote for a bill.
Congressional Republicans prescribed a punishment for Planned Parenthood before even holding their fast hearing on the matter. They may as well fast-track their agenda as holding committee hearings would be nothing more than a formality.
There's no way this bill will pass as Senate Democrats will undoubtedly filibuster it, but it's still a waste of precious time. There are only a handful of days remaining before the federal government will shut down and congressional Republicans are wasting time holding a series of symbolic show votes to defund women's healthcare.
This isn't over by a long shot.
