Right now we have 51 Senate seats (including Sanders and (gag, cough, hairball) Lieberman). For the filibuster-proof majority, we need ideally need 10 more (hairball, Lieberman), though 9 will do as venal Joe will do anything to maintain the illusion that he matters. So let's say 9.
According to the studious and careful Nate Silver at fivethirtyeight.com, it's looking like we pick-up:
THE SOLID SIX:
Virginia
New Mexico
Colorado
New Hampshire
Oregon
Alaska* (thanks for pushing for that quick trial, Tubes!)
THE REAL CLOSE THREE:
North Carolina (looking good, but don't discount Dole's latest hate-ads)
Minnesota (coin toss)
Georgia (most likely goes to a run-off with, we hope and hope, President-elect Obama stumping for our guy, Jim Martin)
Getting these nine would do it, which really means getting these last three. So if you want to help out Kay Hagan, Al Franken, or Jim Martin, jump on board -- and remember, helping them, you're helping Barack.
You're also making sure that the stench-emitting smear machines constructed of lies that go by the names Elizabeth Dole, Norm Coleman and Saxby Chambliss will quickly recede into the history books, in which they will all occupy a chapter entitled: Shitbirds, Or Americans Who Hate Most Of Their Citizenry But Pretend Otherwise.
There are two more people on that Shitbird List, and two more guys poised to oust them. These races are not "REAL CLOSE" but:
THE CLOSE ENOUGH TWO:
Kentucky
Mississippi
Winning Kentucky would be suh-weet, not only would we be getting Bruce Lunsford in, but we would be getting current Senate Minority Leader, Mitch McConnell, out. Mississippi is either not close or nearly a tie, depending on the poll, so consider helping out Ronnie Musgrove.
Help comes in many forms - donations (none too small), phone banking, canvassing. All help is good. Barack needs 60 plus seats in the senate to make the kinds of real changes we all need.
