It’s a funny piece, but I have to say: it’s always been like this. Politics has always been inextricably linked to society and culture, and with about the same volume. Rewind to All in the Family, 40 years ago, and how precisely it illustrated the socio-political debate at the time. I think what makes it seem more pervasive now is that the linkage is louder and more accessible via social media. I don’t necessarily believe there’s more politicization of our culture, it’s just louder — especially for those of us who feed off the political side of social media and blogs. But there’s an entire universe of people who can barely name the vice president much less care what their beer says about their political ideology.
