Just when I thought Republican contradictions couldn't shock me any more, this comes along. Weeks ago, the House Republicans overwhelmingly approved the Paul Ryan budget plan. All of them. Every Republican.
And yesterday, The Hill highlighted the Republican push for a new balanced budget amendment:
Republican Senators are set to kick off a media blitz to push a balanced budget amendment, beginning Wednesday in D.C. and building up through their July Fourth recess next week, when Members will flood local papers and airwaves with support.
Guess what? If the amendment were to pass, the Ryan budget would be unconstitutional. The amendment caps spending at 18 percent of GDP and the Ryan budget plan exceeds 20 percent of GDP.
They're smart.
