According to The Telegraph, so-called peace activists are planning to travel to Syria to protect potential military targets.
The ‘International Human Shields’ movement, started by a group of activists in Britain and the US, plans to bring to Syria civilians from countries around the globe, who will try to deter US strikes on the country by staking out potential military targets.
Franklin Lamb, a lawyer recently appointed as the legal adviser for the group said he had been “inundated” with requests from activists including from Canada, France, Italy, the US, and Britain. [...]
The ‘human shield’ strategy has also been taken up by some Damascenes. A group calling itself ‘Over Our Dead Bodies’ has established a sit-in at Qassioun, a mountain overlooking Damascus that is is home to both a large military base and state television centre.
According to the U.N., as many as 7 million Syrians have been displaced by the nation’s civil war while as many as 83,000 to 110,000 have been killed, depending on which activist group you ask. Over 1,000 were also recently killed by a Sarin gas attack.
And these idiots, these “peace activists,” are planning to form a human shield outside military installations loyal to Assad.
This may make sense if there hadn’t already been a war going on within the country as there’s nothing wrong with advocating for peace, but it’s a little late to be forming a human peace shield. Because it’s not as if war will begin only once the U.S. takes action. The war has been ongoing since late 2011.
And if you’re a peace activist, why would you protect the Assad regime that has already made war on its own people and used chemical weapons on them? That doesn’t make any sense. There is no peace to protect.
There was no war in Iraq before we invaded, but Syria is not Iraq.
Syrians have an excuse, because they may be shot if they don’t volunteer to become human shields, but the westerners are gullible and embarrassing.
