The good news is Trump is breaking another campaign promise and will not be moving our embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
The stupid news is the White House is painting this as some kind of negotiation tactic.
"[N]o one should consider this step to be in any way a retreat from the President's strong support for Israel and for the United States-Israel alliance," a White House statement said. "President Trump made this decision to maximize the chances of successfully negotiating a deal between Israel and the Palestinians, fulfilling his solemn obligation to defend America's national security interests. But, as he has repeatedly stated his intention to move the embassy, the question is not if that move happens, but only when."
If this is a negotiation tactic, why give the game away?
I mean, if you say you're going to move it in any case, what incentive is there? Where's the leverage?
What's extra stupid about this is it's never going to happen. Because if moving the embassy is dependent on peace, it will never be moved. But, taking that as a given, the Trump regime insists it will be moved. It's a matter of when, not if, they say.
In other words, they've blown up a bargaining chip over something that isn't going to happen anyway. I would understand if both the Israelis and Palestinians felt like Trump is insulting their intelligence.
Is this the Art of the Deal?
