We have a corrupt AG, a dysfunctional Congress, an opposition party that just wants to investigate and have no accountability, and Mueller’s approach in this atmosphere is to play it safe by saying “I technically followed the letter of the law and do not want to get to too involved by indicting any bigwigs so here is a road map to penalize the criminals and maybe someone with a backbone will someday follow it…maybe”.

I didn’t expect Robert Mueller to come out all guns a blazing and blast warrants all over the place. He was a by the book straight arrow who plays by the rules, and in the end did his job accordingly. I think we built up Mueller as some larger than life figure who was going to save us all from Orange Satan’s power, yet a lot of people felt emotionally let down when all was said and done, and Bill Maher lashing out like the Whinny Little Bitch™ that he doesn’t really know he’s become. Jon Stewart, as usual was the one who was correct in saying Mueller wasn’t going to save us.

To sum it up, it’s a good field. I agree. As to Anita Hill, I am reading Jane Mayer’s book, Strange Justice, on the Clarence Thomas hearings. Biden was the chairman. There was only so much he could do. He voted against Thomas for confirmation. The real problems with the hearings were on the gop side. I remember Senator Arlen Specter’s questioning of Anita Hill in particular. The gop strategy was to keep the personal habits and other complaints about Thomas under wraps and to attack Anita Hill. They succeeded. They were well aware that Clarence Thomas was someone who was a avid consumer of raunchy pornography and that his friends from his school days and his days at the EOC recognized him in the comments Anita Hill said he made to her. What’s more, when he worked in Senator Danforth’s office he was well known to have gone after another aide there at the time who later became AG, John Ashcroft who was, how shall we say, ….more straight laced. He seemed to enjoy making him uncomfortable. He was also known to go after whistle blowers unless there was the glare of publicity to stop him. He is not a nice man and he is not an honest one. But I remember that at the time, the Dems were stung by the attacks on their torpedoing of the Bork nomination. Biden was trying to play out the hearings with an even hand. And I also remember public sentiment at the time. It was not really against Thomas as he did a lot of bullshitting and outright lying during his hearings. I don’t think you can blame Biden for that. That would be on the gop and on H W Bush who nominated him to placate the evangelicals and fringe right in his party. He was facing re-election and he wanted to shore up his base. Bush should apologize. But the time is long past for that. Biden is a good man and he is someone who respects women and women’s rights.

Roger Stone and Jerome Corsi are a little long in the tooth – and could be on their way to prison – so there’s bound to be bunches of merry tricksters auditioning for the parts. Cuz holy crap, it pays really well, and pretty much all you have to do is decide you can be enough of a dick to engage in the political version of pulling wings off of butterflies.

Politics has always included some very sketchy (even downright shitty) characters, but today’s GOP seems particularly attractive to assholes like that.

Another good show – love hearing from Kimberley.

I would vote for sentient vomit at this point if it kept Trump and the Republicans out of the White House. That said though, I think the Democrats need to go younger, more passionate and with someone who does not have the baggage of Biden – see the gaffes, the Anita Hill debacle, his obsession with centrism and bipartisanship, and his recent fanboy foolishness of calling Mike Pence a great guy (newsflash – Mike Pence is anything but). I thought he was an acceptable VP, but not really president material. I think he is one of those Democratic dinosaurs that still feels he can talk sense to foes across the aisle while they are tying him to the stake and setting him (and the country) on fire. That approach is never going to work in this environment.

That said, everything he outlined about Mueller is absolutely 100% correct and the fact that it comes from Maher does not make it any less so. The Beltway pundits can cautiously fellate Mueller all they want, but this is no show of bravery or leadership and certainly no help to the country in one of its direst moments at all. He played it safe, and Trump and his cronies riding on what they have spun to be the vindication train are now unencumbered to run riot through 2020 and possibly beyond. To think of the lives that will be lost and ruined in that time is pretty unforgivable, so playing it safe just does not wash and is unacceptable.

I’ll vote for Biden but I don’t really want him to be President. I think he’s too Centrist. I want Harris and/or Warren.
