The Supreme Court thankfully decided against the FCC and in favor of allowing "fleeting" obscenities on broadcast television, based on fines levied against Fox and ABC going back as far as 2002. Oddly enough, the best quote came from Antonin Scalia who described Cher's use of "fuck" like so:
“[Cher] metaphorically suggested a sexual act as a means of expressing hostility to her critics.”
Yes, even the conservative justices joined in the decision against the FCC and in favor of broadcast obscenity. Weird. And, yes, Nicole Ritchie, Paris Hilton and Bono were discussed inside the walls of the Supreme Court. Even weirder.
Adding... By the way, this won't mean the networks will suddenly air shows with Deadwood-level profanity. They still have advertisers and, thus, internal standards & practices rules they have to maintain.
