The Senate did not vote to convict Trump and bar him from running for office again and I never expected they would, but a handful of Republican senators did vote against Trump and now they're paying a small rhetorical price for it.
In Pennsylvania, officials from the state party are attacking Senator Pat Toomey and calling for his censure after he voted to convict Trump.
The problem for them, in their own words, is that Toomey did "the right thing" and they did not elect him to do that.
Actual quote from a PA GOP official, explaining why Sen. Toomey should be censured: “We did not send him there to vote his conscience. We did not send him there to ‘do the right thing’ or whatever”

“We did not send him there to vote his conscience. We did not send him there to do the right thing or whatever he said he was doing. We sent him there to represent us."
Oh. Okay.
Look, it's not a conspiracy theory if they say it out loud.
