King of the Blues B.B. King passed away last night at the age of 89.
I saw B.B. King perform live from the second row in Louisville, Kentucky about 7 years ago. His spirit and enthusiasm was remarkable and his band was incredible. I doubt I'll see a better performance in my lifetime.
More than any other song her performed that night, I remember his rendition of Blues Man; a song that he described to the audience as being about trying to keep your spirits up as a black man in the Jim Crow south. That context is something I wouldn't grow to fully appreciate and understand until years later; as I do now.
