Trump made an ass of himself after the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting by accusing his Republican colleagues of being afraid of the NRA (this is true) and that we should confiscate guns and worry about due process later (this is unconstitutional), but now he has completely reversed course and fallen in line with the NRA.
The White House unveiled their new plan to fight school gun violence and it does not include raising the minimum wage to buy guns, but it does call for spending federal tax dollars to train and arm teachers or other personnel.
As part [of the] plan, the White House has directed the Justice Department to help states partner with local law enforcement to provide “rigorous firearms training to specifically qualified volunteer school personnel,” said Andrew Bremberg, director of the president’s Domestic Policy Council. The White House did not immediately say how much money would be made available.
The White House didn't say how much money would be made available, but the number being bandied about is in the neighborhood of $400 million.
The plan also calls for creating a commission to study school safety which will be chaired by Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, who is a fucking idiot, virtually guaranteeing that the commission will not produce anything of consequence if it produces anything at all.
I wouldn't even call this "plan" a half-measure. It's a joke. But the part about arming teachers is no joke. That will probably get more people killed.
