Trump and his lawyers have accused former FBI director James Comey of illegally leaking the details of his conversations with Trump and they threatened to file a complaint against him, but they're not going to do that.
Why not? Trump's associates are leaking their own version of events to the media, but I suspect they'll never file a complaint because Comey didn't do anything illegal.
A person familiar with the matter told ABC News the legal team’s decision was made so that the Special Counsel Robert Mueller would have space to continue his investigation into Russian election meddling -- which has reportedly expanded to include whether or not Trump obstructed justice -- without the interference or distraction such complaints could create.
Yes, I'm sure Trump's lackeys are very concerned about interfering with Mueller's investigation.
“The complaint to the [Justice Department Inspector General] and the submission to Senate Judiciary regarding Mr. Comey’s public testimony will go forward at the appropriate time,” the source said.
No, it won't.
In addition to do nothing illegal, filing a complaint against Comey in this case may ignite a discovery process that confirms every single thing Comey has said. But that's fake news, right? We wouldn't want to confirm the hoax that Comey is totally guilty of committing.
You can't have it both ways. Comey is either a liar, or you're confirming his version of events by accusing him of leaking accurate details.
