Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump spoke to evangelical faith leaders in New York this morning where he implied that Hillary Clinton may also be a Secret Muslim Manchurian Candidate.
To be clear, Trump drew a direct comparison to President Obama and said Clinton may be the bigger threat.
Speaking to a group of top social conservative evangelical Christian leaders at a gathering in New York City, Trump said, “we don't know anything about Hillary in terms of religion.”
“Now, she's been in the public eye for years and years, and yet there's no — there's nothing out there,” Trump said. “There's like nothing out there. It's going to be an extension of Obama but it's going to be worse, because with Obama you had your guard up. With Hillary you don't, and it's going to be worse.”
This is an old white man using a dogwhistle for the first black president to imply that the first woman to (probably) become president is a saboteur.
Does this make Hillary Clinton a double-secret Muslim?
I doubt this is a one-off comment from Trump. A Trump campaign spokesperson has already defended this new line of attack so we can expect to see it again.
I would be remiss not to mention that the so-called faith leaders Trump spoke to -- the group that is now advising him -- includes, among other people, Michele Bachmann.
