Chuck Todd has ripped Stephen Colbert's lack of seriousness and respect for the system -- twice.
Last night at around 11:30PM eastern, MSNBC switched from election coverage to yet another cookie-cutter prison porn documentary.
And Stephen Colbert is unserious.
Chuck Todd isn't alone, by the way. The entire cable news establishment only cares about the drama -- the horse race -- and the subsequent ratings it delivers. Facts, policy and how these impact real Americans is irrelevant and ignored by most (with few exceptions who I repeatedly note here like Maddow and O'Donnell) due to both the profit-motive and the fear of retribution from the conservative establishment for a perceived liberal bias when, in reality, the only bias is for ratings.
Yes, political campaigns are exciting and addictive to watch, but they're only a means of delivering leaders and policy that will either hurt or help America. By only covering the fun easy shit, they're hurting the perception of politics and erasing most of what's truly important about the process.
Put another way, it'd be like only covering the flight of a bullet without noting the harm it can do when it violently invades a body.
