It's this kind of attitude about the "smackdown" view of politics that, as Jon Stewart said, is hurting America.
“I think it was a draw, which was a Republican win,” said Democratic political consultant Dan Gerstein. “The Republican tone was just right: a respectful, substantive disagreement, very disciplined and consistent in their message.”
Who cares if they were disciplined or consistent? Consistent?! They routinely contradicted themselves. Grassley was all in favor of mandates less than a year ago. McCain is now opposed to a healthcare bill that contains several provisions from his own campaign plan.
Were their facts correct on the policy? No. Did they use misleading talking points developed by Frank Luntz over and over and over? Yes. But most importantly, Americans of both parties are one injury away from financial ruin or death, seniors are rationing their medicine due to Republican incompetence on Part-D -- and these bastards want us to slow down and start over?
Nuts!
