“If my son were gay he better come home and talk to me like a man and not [like a homosexual--Morgan mimicked a feminine voice] or I’d pull out a knife and stab that little N***** to death.”
Asshole. Of course he's allowed to say whatever he wants. Likewise, I'm allowed to call him an asshole who I've never thought was the slightest bit funny.
The other Worst Person is the reporter who decided to redact exactly what Morgan said using that ridiculous bracketed phrase above. If someone says something offensive, I want to know exactly what it was regardless of how offensive the word usage might be. We're not children. Print the whole goddamn thing.
AND... I'd like to include The Best Person in the World category here for Tina Fey, who replied to Morgan's awfulness with this:
“The violent imagery of Tracy’s rant was disturbing to me at a time when homophobic hate crimes continue to be a life-threatening issue for the GLBT Community. It also doesn’t line up with the Tracy Morgan I know, who is not a hateful man and is generally much too sleepy and self-centered to ever hurt another person. I hope for his sake that Tracy’s apology will be accepted as sincere by his gay and lesbian co-workers at ’30 Rock’, without whom Tracy would not have lines to say, clothes to wear, sets to stand on, scene partners to act with, or a printed-out paycheck from accounting to put in his pocket.”
Genius on so many levels.
