The student newspaper at the University of Texas-Austin, The Daily Texan, for publishing this cartoon in the paper yesterday.
Following the backlash for publishing this garbage, the editorial staff of The Daily Texan issued this cop-out non-apology.
The views expressed in the cartoon are not those of the editorial board. They are those of the artist. It is the policy of the editorial board to publish the views of our columnists and cartoonists, even if we disagree with them.
Translation: "We want the attention and the fruits born from publishing this, but none of the consequences or responsibility."
As someone who views dozens of political cartoons on a daily basis, including conservative cartoons, I can tell you that conservative cartoonists have been particularly insensitive to the situation, and some have scribbled nonsense that I consider offensive, but this is by far the worst example I have seen.
The moron who drew this monstrosity even managed to spell Trayvon's name incorrectly while referring to him as a "colored boy." And I don't think I need to point out how ridiculous the notion is that the media is somehow oppressing the white man in the midst of all this.
