While Elvis and I are discussing how Obama's Nobel Peace Prize is exactly what he needed right now (That was snark, folks.), here's Frank Schaeffer on the predictable responses that will follow:
The Religious Right will take this is further proof that Obama is the Antichrist.
The neoconservatives will trumpet this as the ultimate evidence of Obama being a socialist, embraced by notoriously socialist Sweden.
The "Birthers" will find evidence that Obama is indeed not an American since isn't it more likely that those Communists in Europe would give the Nobel Peace Prize to a Kenyan?
The "Deathers" already know that in Sweden socialized medicine kills one out of every two patients and forces 99% of women to have abortions, so this will just prove that a similar fate awaits all Americans.
I've been a fan of Frank Schaeffer and his book Crazy for God for a while and even moreso after he stopped by Rachel Maddow last month to discuss the aforementioned wingnuts who literally believe Barack Obama is the biblical Antichrist. Frank laid down the most cutting assessment of where these people should lie in the political process: "A village cannot reorganize village life to suit the village idiot."Of course, try telling that to our very serious media who treats these loonies as if they have a valid argument. "You think Obama is a mythological harbinger of doom? Awesome.
